Do Teardrop Trailers Hold Their Value?

In today’s market, we typically look for good investments that will retain their worth for some time to come.

Our recreational equipment and vehicles are no different. When we invest a major amount of money into our purchases, the real question becomes “Will my RV, motorhome, travel trailer, popup trailers, truck campers, or teardrop camper hold its value?”

Buyer’s remorse is a real thing, so how do we know which one will be the right investment?

We can tell you without a doubt that your teardrop camper is likely to be the one out of that group that does, in fact, hold its value! How do we know? Come closer and we will tell you all you need to know…

Teardrop trailers have assets that make them the most beneficial travel investment of the camping world. So, if you’re wondering if teardrop trailers are worth it, we can assure you they are!

Besides being an all-around fun way to travel to see exciting and new regions, teardrop campers are practical all around. They are cost efficient at the initial price point and follow up maintenance, ensure the safety of yourself and belongings, and require little upkeep down the road.

Breaking it down, here is how we have found how these benefits have helped keep values higher than many other forms of recreational vehicles:

  • Practicality and Functionality

The ability to store your teardrop in your garage or alongside your house in a very compact and convenient location speaks volumes about your sweet little camper. It is a lovely tiny home that is appealing to the eye.

Many other RVs or travel trailers are big and bulky and take up a great deal of space. They are hard to park at many suburban homes and are likely to be an eyesore to the general public, if not yourself.

The functionality of a teardrop allows you to pick-up and go at a whim, without a great deal of extra effort beyond hooking up to your vehicle’s tow package. You are therefore likely to use the teardrop more than you would an RV considering what little time it takes to prepare for roadworthy trips.

  • Initial Price Point

Price points for a teardrop are still significantly lower than motorhomes, large camper trailers, and pop-up tents in general. Unless you are buying used from a family member who gives you a great deal, you are likely to be paying over $25,000 for your average motorhome, and beyond given all of the bells and whistles.

However, even the top-of-the-line teardrop trailer will cost you less than half that. Your initial investment will already have you saving money for all of the amenities that you will need along your travels. Depending on the designer you choose or whether you are purchasing a slightly used unit, your teardrop costs may fluctuate on either side of that price point.

  • Follow Up Maintenance

Whether you have purchased a new or used teardrop, it is going to require very little maintenance on your end. You may have to replace little things over the years like light bulbs, utensils, bedding, tires, batteries- depending on the amount of use on an annual basis.

You won’t have to make major purchases like fixing roof leaks or replacing various engine parts. You will be dealing with very little in terms of electricity and plumbing (unless you upgrade for conveniences like showers and toilets).

We are talking extremely low maintenance compared to motorhomes with engine compartments and potential breakdowns.

  • Security and Protection

Your teardrop will have lockable doors and a hatch to protect your belongings.

The security of knowing your items is stowed away and secured will add to your feeling of safety along the backroads. Your sense of security will also be bolstered to know that you and your gear will be protected against the elements and large wildlife at night.

This alone offers something money can’t buy. A peace of mind. This holds a different kind of value all on its own and are just some of the benefits of a teardrop trailer.

  • Low Servicing

Servicing costs dip on a large scale, when you purchase a teardrop. You don’t need additional driver’s insurance, you don’t need to furnish an entire motorhome, and you don’t need expensive engine parts.

Purchasing from a high-end dealership will increase your market cost, therefore your teardrop will experience depreciation as soon as you tow it off their lot, but this loss will be nothing in comparison to the asset gained from the transaction.

  • Long Term Affordability

Replenishing items in your teardrop will be your only cost once you equip your teardrop with all the regular necessities like bedding, extra travel clothing, pillows, blankets, curtains, and random travel activities like cards, books, games.

Food will essentially be the items you are replacing on a regular basis. That is all my friend. Seeing as you bring along food no matter how you travel, we can safely say that the long-term affordability of your teardrop camper will be saving you enough dollars to purchase another teardrop or put that money towards anything else you want.

Given all of these considerations, your teardrop is likely to pay itself off within a year or two of your purchase. Whereas motorhomes and the like could take up to a full decade of use to pay itself off meanwhile, having depreciated a significant amount more than a teardrop trailer.

As a recent rise in popularity has increased the value of teardrops, you can rest assured that your investment will maintain that value for years to come, whether you choose to utilize your unit to its maximum life or choose to sell. Happy Hunting!
