Top 10 Teardrop Camping Tips

It’s time for an outdoor adventure!

We are not just talking about a stroll down through your neighborhood park. We are talking about a teardrop camping experience that will leave you with fond memories until your next travels, which we will guarantee to be soon after you return.

If you are new to the teardrop travel community, well let us be the first to welcome you!

Teardrop trailers make for quaint and unique travel accommodations, and we wouldn’t want it any other way. If you have been in the teardrop camper for a bit longer, we welcome you to our site!

Today, we are going to provide you with our top 10 tips and tricks for camping in a teardrop trailer. If that wasn’t a tongue twister…then we don’t know what is. You may have already heard of a few of these, but we hope to bring some new additions to your teardrop world.

Let’s get this campfire started!

Tip #1- Don’t forget the propane!

You will utilize this most for your stove/grill and cabin heating options. Should your unit also include shower attachments, then you will definitely want this for the hot water features!

Be sure to pack a little extra just in case for extended travels. Hot tea or coffee in the early camping mornings could make all the difference for a member in your camper party!

Tip #2- Always keep trash bags on hand

We all want to leave our camping environment the way we found it, right?

Not only to protect nature, but to ensure the beautiful landscape is kept that way for future travelers. It also keeps your camper cleaned up and ready for use. Always pack out what you have packed in. If you are traveling with littles, this is especially important because we know they always have a way of producing more trash than we had thought possible.

Teach them young and they will follow the responsible camper way!

Tip #3- Toilet paper is a must

Unless you have a compost toilet in your teardrop or you are staying in a state park with bathroom facilities, we highly recommend…no we stress that toilet paper needs to accompany you. We’ve heard leaves and sticks aren’t comfortable, no personal experience.

This tip works in tandem with Tip #2…pack out everything you packed in!

Tip #4- Be creative with food dishes but keep it simple

Obviously you have limited space in a teardrop galley, no matter how big it might be. You also may have multiple people camping with you. Camping meals don’t have to be boring by any means! See our article on simple camping meals.

However, you want to adjust to the room you have available. We like to keep our snacks healthy to increase energy while hiking or taking part in other outdoor activities.

Tip #5- Pack extra water

While you might be able to get away with missing lunch while out on a hike, you don’t want to go skimpy on your water intake. This extra water will also be important for washing dishes, cooking, and any medical emergencies that are always a potential in the great outdoors. Pack that water.

Tip #6- Bring clothing layers (jacket, sweater, socks, extra pair of shoes) and extra blankets

It is always a good idea to have layers available. Should you fall into a creek or the temperature fluctuates where your campsite is set up, you will be thankful for that extra change of clothing. Layering with blankets protects against hypothermia and ensures a good night’s sleep.

Tip #7- Invest in an extra camper tire

Should your trip take you off the beaten path, you will be thankful you had this readily available. It will save time and money, as well as not leave your trailer in an unfamiliar location while you go to the nearest town for a new tire.

Tip #8- Bring a localized charger/ or extra battery

This one is from personal experience. If you don’t care for your battery or bring an additional one, you may find yourself without the handy features of cabin lights or charging stations for electronic devices. Allow it isn’t the end of the world, your lantern or flashlight may not cut it.

Tip #9- Don’t sweat the small stuff

How many trips would we appreciate more if we weren’t fixed on the things that go wrong. Take it with a grain of salt and move on to what the adventure is truly about. You forgot an extra battery for your flashlight or heaven forbid, your pillow…it will all be okay. Enjoy the ride!

Tip #10- Get the teardrop camper ready for next use

Not only do you want to make sure you empty out the things you no longer need upon your return home, you want to make sure that you pack the trailer back up with items used during your travels. You may even need to launder blankets and sheets, then put them back in your teardrop.

This prepares you for your next adventure on a whim!

No need to plan.

We hope these are helpful in your next teardrop camping trip. If you have any extra tidbits of information that you have found helpful over the years, please reach out to us and share! We would love to hear them. Until next time, happy camping!
